Meet #1 Info: Ridgetop @ Southampton

On Sunday, June 12, Ridgetop will be visiting the Southampton Recreation Association for our first meet of the summer! The address is 3201 Chellowe Rd, Richmond, VA, 23225, and the meet start time is 4pm. You should arrive about 60 min early to get settled and be ready for warmups. The theme for the meet is Hawaiian, so dress accordingly!

Parking will be difficult. There is some space in our pool parking lot. Additional parking is located nearby at the baseball field and Southampton Elementary School on Prairie St. Please honor all “No Parking” signs. Parking is only allowed on one side of the street in the neighborhood and towing by the city is enforced. A “No Parking” sign on one side means no parking on that side for the entire length of the street.

Ridgetop will sit in the area on the short side of the pool next to the tennis courts. You can access this area over the steps/balcony just left of the pool gate. The seating is a grassy, tiered area. Southampton recommends chairs and blankets.

Swimmers called to the Clerk of Course will report to the area in front of the baby pools near the restrooms. There will be a table set up in the spectator area for your swimmers to pick up their cards from your volunteers. Parents can accompany their children until they are called individually to line up by the Clerk of Course. Parents are not allowed to accompany children once they are seated on the Clerk of Course benches or to the blocks.

Please review the list of swimmers who will NOT be attending the meet for accuracy. Please email the coach if this is in error. The list includes the “non-responders,” those who have not told me whether or not they are participating in the meet. If your plans change at the last minute, it is imperative that you email the coach AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Obviously unexpected things can happen, but foreseeable last minute cancellations cause disruption of the lineup and buddy list and are disrespectful of your teammates and coaches.

Be aware that there can be late changes due to last minute cancellations, so don’t forget to verify the events at the meet.

Even experienced swimmers and swim parents could benefit from reading pages 9-11 in the swim team handbook about swim meet routines and procedures, as well as this post about how the coaches determine meet line-ups.
